Introduction:
Dzogchen yogis traditionally get introduced to their ‘nature of mind’ via a short-lived ‘initiatory experience.’ This is induced by a very loud and forcefully uttered “phat!” In modern police operations this is known as “command voice.” Its use startles anyone hearing the command, and literally stops their inner conversation of thoughts as it induces a ‘surrender to authority’ reaction. However, it only works if you do not know that it is coming, so you will be startled.
In the case of Dzogchen Trekchö it is this ‘quiet mind’ that is the goal of the initiatory experience, because it gives the yogi a ‘taste’ of that which they must then work towards, using ‘pure awareness’ as their path. They rest on the ‘base’ of pure awareness, after distinguishing it from mind. Then they focus and remain focused only on pure awareness. They do not employ any concepts, since concepts are mind. The traditional initiatory experience is very short-lived, but it is an important step. I am introducing another technique to induce this initiatory experience, using FSR Images presented as a short video, but one that directly induces the exact same state as the traditional technique accomplishes — for as much time as is desired. Using an FSR video to gain the same experience as the traditional technique does, keeps your mind quiescent for minutes – and longer – not just a few nanoseconds. This technique, unlike the traditional technique, gives ongoing direct feedback regarding the yogi’s ‘gaze,’ so that they can more quickly experience the Naturing of mind. It does not rely on being startled. Instead, its effect is derived from the limits of thought, by overpowering the brain. It works in the exact same way every time the yogi feels the need to quiet their mind, or reorient their gaze, and the more you use it, the easier it is to slip into a quiet mind.
But there is more: Imagine how much this technique could help people psychologically, when in a crisis with their thoughts running riot. Instead of popping a pill, they can just watch a special video for a few minutes to compose themselves, by skillfully quieting their thinking mind.
