The limitations of language are nowhere more evident than in attempts to describe reality as a simple whole rather than as a complex of parts, encompassing even its most profound imperceivable depths, as teachers in spiritual traditions seek to do. Yet, because of the nature of what is being taught, they must communicate in a way that opens and frees the mind from the accumulated limiting understandings gleaned from daily life, and that is not easily accomplished.
