Somewhere along the way, the understanding that something is “beyond concepts” got very confused. That confusion is evidenced when individuals state that we cannot, and therefore should not, speak of (it) at all (whatever the “it” is) because (it) is beyond concepts. But there is a good reason why wisdom teachings often follow up the assertion that some experience or insight is beyond concepts by immediately continuing with conceptual explanations, names, and metaphors for it.
